Situated in the heart of the Peak District, Haddon Hall will play host to age-old archery in the chapel fields, an Easter egg hunt hosted by the Easter Bunny and an exhibition delving into the traditions and rituals of this historic festival.
Awash with spring flowers, Easter eggs inspired by the interiors at Haddon will be displayed around the Hall, created by Bakewell’s renowned artisan chocolatier, Holdsworth.
From April 8th until May 1st, there will be opportunity to learn about the origins and customs of the Easter festival in Haddon’s Easter Exhibition, exploring traditions from Lent to Maundy money, Haddon’s hares to Easter bunnies, Simnel cakes, hot cross buns and many more. Absorb the intricate 15th Century carvings in Haddon’s Nottingham Alabaster reredos, which depicts the Passion and Resurrection of Christ as told in the Gospels.
On Saturday, April 15th at 12pm in the Long Gallery, author Dr Patrick Harding will examine the fascinating history and folklore of the Easter Festival.
From April 14th – 17th, visitors can learn the art of archery. Targets will be set up in the chapel fields and Haddon’s master bowman will be on hand with tips and advice. In Haddon Hall’s heyday, it was law that every able man over the age of 24 should be able to shoot a target at 220 yards!
A set of six arrows is £2.50, open to all ages and abilities.
On Sunday April 16th, an Easter Egg hunt will take place, with the Easter Bunny on hand to help find the eggs. There will also be an artist offering face painting for the children to enjoy for free.
Entry for children is free with a paying adult, and all events are included within the general admission price unless stated otherwise.
